WIEBES LOOKING FOR SECOND VICTORY IN A ROW

4 April 2022

Last year Lorena Wiebes was the first woman ever to add the Scheldeprijs to her record. The day after tomorrow she will be looking for a second consecutive victory. On Churchilllaan in Schoten she will have to get past Consonni, among others.

Number one is for Lorena Wiebes on Wednesday, last year she won the sprint in Schoten and thus won the first Scheldeprijs for women. In search of a second consecutive victory, she will be joined by her Dutch teammate Charlotte Kool, who finished in the top 10 last year.

Wiebes will have to compete against a strong Trek-Segafredo block. They can count on the experienced and fast Hosking, the fast legs of Paternoster and former world champion Dideriksen. Elynor Backstedt and Van Anrooij are also on the same team.

At Valcar-Travel & Service, we are looking forward to the Italian Chiara Consonni, who won last Wednesday's Dwars door Vlaanderen after being the fastest on the Verbindingsweg. Consonni will be supported in Schoten by compatriots Carbonari and Persico, who is also not slow at the finish. EF Education-Tibco-SVB will go with young talents Honsinger and Borghesi.

At Liv Racing Xstra, Rachele Barbieri is the one to watch. She sprinted to sixth place in Waregem in the slipstream of Consonni. While Team-Bike Exchange is counting on Ariana Fidanza, who has Teniel Campbell in support.

Who will succeed Lorena Wiebes on Wednesday April 6 and thus complete the list of winners of the Scheldeprijs, that’s something we'll discover around 15h at the Churchilllaan in Schoten. Just like last year, the women's race can be followed live on Pickx.be from 12:00.
