Scheldeprijs 2022: Mobility in Schoten

On the occasion of the Scheldeprijs on Wednesday 6 April 2022, there will be some traffic disruptions in the centre of Schoten. At 11.30am the international Women's Elite race will start on Churchilllaan in Schoten. Between 1.30 pm and 5.30 pm the riders (Women Elite and afterwards Men Elite) will pass several times through the streets of the local circuit in and around Schoten, over a course of 17.2 km. Between these hours you can only drive through the streets sporadically, and then only in the direction of the race and after the green flag has been passed. The course on the local loop (see dotted line "Parcours Scheldeprijs") moves with the direction of the clock on the plan below.

Antwerp is easily accessible by train via the connections with stop at Antwerp-Central station. Further to Schoten from Antwerp-Central by tram and/or bus.

From the train station you have direct access to the metro stations "Diamant" and "Astrid" with a fast tram connection to Merksem (see Met de tram).

At 5 minutes walking distance several direct bus lines depart from the Opera, quadrant B, to Schoten (see By bus)

The P+R Merksem (at Carrefour Schoten) will exceptionally on 6 April 2022 be served by the diverted bus lines from and to Antwerp passing through Schoten.

At P+R Merksem you can switch to one of the direct bus lines from Antwerp to Schoten Centre (lines 600-601-602-620-621) at the Wilgendaalstraat. These bus lines will pass the P+R Merksem stop during their diversionary route and will have a "Temporary stop" there on 6 April 2022.

From end stop "P+R Merksem", 2.8 km (approx. 35 minutes) on foot to Schoten-Centrum along Horstebaan and Vordensteinstraat.

Bus lines 780 and 640: In the centre of Brasschaat at the crossing of Bredabaan and Augustijnslei you can change from line 640 at the stop Brasschaat Kerk Bredabaan (bus line 105737) to line 780 at the stop Brasschaat Kerk Augustijnslei (bus line 109856).

Bus lines 780 and 650 have 3 common stops in Kapellen: "Dorp" "Administratief Centrum" and "Zilverenhoeklaan".

For all cycling enthusiasts in and around Schoten, as well as for the sporty cycling fanatics, it is recommended to come by bike if possible. There are bicycle sheds at:

Kopstraat 10, Parking Vordenstein ( 1.1 km on foot to Schoten-Centre along Kopstraat, Horstebaan and Vordensteinstraat = 13 minutes)
the Sint-Cordulastraat , at the height of De Kaekelaar

If you come by car, combine it as much as possible with the offer of public transport to and from the centre of Schoten.

On their diversion route, the tram and bus stop P+R Merksem (at Carrefour Schoten) will be exceptionally served by the bus lines from and to Antwerp that pass in Schoten on 6 April 2022.

After the start of the Women Elite race in Schoten at 11.30 am, the riders will pass several times between 1.30 pm and 5.30 pm through the streets of the local circuit in and around Schoten, over a course of 17.2 km. Between these hours, you can only sporadically drive through these streets, and then only in the direction of the race and after the green flag has been passed. The course on the local loop moves in a clockwise direction.

E19 from Antwerp, direction Breda

Antwerp Ring (R1) - follow Breda - exit 5 MERKSEM/Kapellen/Brasschaat - 1st exit right direction SCHOTEN - end of exit right : Bredabaan - follow direction Schoten until crossing Bredabaan/Horstebaan (Carrefour).

In combination with public transport: at the traffic lights straight on Bredabaan to Parking P&R Keizershoek in Merksem (on your right) or turn left to Horstebaan to Parking Carrefour (on your right).

By car to Schoten: turn left to Horstebaan, straight on until the third side street on the left, to Parking Vordenstein (max. 100 cars) in the Kopstraat.

E19 from Breda, direction Antwerp

Antwerp Ring (R1) - follow Antwerp - exit 5 MERKSEM/Kapellen/Brasschaat - at the end of the exit turn right Kapelsesteenweg - at the first traffic lights turn right Bredabaan - follow direction Schoten to cross Bredabaan/Horstebaan (Carrefour).

In combination with public transport: at the traffic lights straight on Bredabaan to Parking P&R Keizershoek in Merksem (on your right, €1.00 per day) or turn left to Horstebaan to parking Carrefour (on your right).

By car to Schoten: turn left to Horstebaan, straight on until the third side street on the left, to Parking Vordenstein (max 100 cars) in the Kopstraat.

Alternative from the west (E17 & E34)

Cycling enthusiasts coming by car from East and West Flanders should preferably take public transport on line 3 Zwijndrecht-Merksem from the P&R in Melsele (see Schoten - By tram and/or bus).

Alternative from the east (E34 & E313)

Cyclists coming by car from the direction of Turnhout (E34) or Hasselt (E313) can take exit 18 Wommelgem.

At the exit you have the P&R Wommelgem. This is at 1 km (10 minutes) walking distance from the Shopping Center at Wijnegem. At the Shopping Center of Wijnegem (south side, near entrance 13) you have a direct bus connection with line 780 to the centre of Schoten (see By bus).

You can also park your car on the parking lot of Makro, on Houtlaan in Wijnegem (across the crossing with Turnhoutsebaan) or at the Shopping Center Wijnegem (car parks around the Shopping Center, ATTENTION the parking garage and the roof parking are closed after 20h).

Parking P+R Keizershoek Bredabaan, Merksem (€1.00 per day)

At the intersection Bredabaan/Horstebaan, direction Merksem, go straight ahead:

  • Past the intersection is the terminus for pre-metrolines 2 and 3 (P+R Merksem stop) and the Park & Ride Keizershoek car park is on the right.

At P+R Merksem you can change to one of the direct bus lines from Antwerp to Schoten-Centrum (lines 600-601-602-620-621) at the Wilgendaalstraat stop. These bus lines will pass the P+R Merksem stop during their diversionary route and will have a "Temporary stop" there on 6 April 2022.

Vanaf “P+R Merksem” 2.8 km (ongeveer 35 minuten) te voet naar Schoten-Centrum langs Horstebaan en Vordensteinstraat

Parking Carrefour, along Horstebaan, Schoten

At the crossroads Bredabaan/Horstebaan, turn left in the direction of Schoten

  • On your right hand side you have the Carrefour parking lot. Take the third exit for the car park at the back of Carrefour (2nd exit is only to leave the Carrefour car park).

At the bus stop "P+R Merksem" (on the Bredabaan in front of Carrefour), you can change to one of the direct bus lines from Antwerp to Schoten-Centrum (lines 600-601-602-620-621), stop Wilgendaalstraat. These bus lines pass the P+R Merksem stop during their diversion route and will have a "Temporary stop" there on 6 April 2022.

From Carrefour parking lot 2.5 km (approx. 30 minutes) on foot to Schoten-Centrum along Horstebaan and Vordensteinstraat

Parking Domein Vordenstein (100 places), Kopstraat 10, Schoten

  • At the crossroads Bredabaan/Horstebaan, turn left into Horstebaan. At the crossroads of Horstebaan/Kopstraat (3rd side street on the left of Horstebaan), turn left into Kopstraat.

From the parking Vordenstein, 1.1 km (about 13 minutes) on foot to Schoten-Centrum via Kopstraat, Horstebaan and Vordensteinstraat.

Parking Sporthal De Zeurt, Eksterdreef 6, Schoten (290 places)

  • At the intersection Bredabaan/Horstebaan, turn left onto Horstebaan. At the crossroads Horstebaan/Kopstraat (3rd side street on the left of Horstebaan) turn left into Kopstraat, at the end of the street at the crossroads Ridder Walter van Havrelaan and Kopstraat turn left into Kopstraat, direction Brecht. Continue straight on in Kopstraat, take the first side street to the left in Eksterdreef, then turn right and keep right to the car park at Sporthal De Zeurt.

From the parking Sporthal De Zeurt :

By public transport :

  • stop 101571 Gemeentelijk Sportpark (Kopstraat 89) direct bus lines 600-601-602-620-621 from Hoogstraten direction Schoten-Centrum to stop 101581 Wilgendaalstraat
  • bus stop 105466 Eksterdreef (Paalstraat 389) bus line 780 from Zandvliet via Schoten-Centrum to Wijnegem Shopping Center until bus stop 109936 Rusthuis

1.9 km (approx. 23 minutes) on foot to Schoten-Centrum via Paalstraat.

Merksem direction: Brechtsebaan (N115), then Schoten ring road until Vordenstreinstraat, Horstebaan, Bredabaan.
